Girl trying to escape dogs dies

A seven-year-old girl, Sravanthi, who suffered a head injury while trying to escape a pack of dogs in Kapra three days ago, died on Thursday while undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital.
Considering the girl’s death as an issue of negligence of local municipal authorities, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has sought a report from the GHMC Commissioner and Ranga Reddy district Collector. The two officials were asked to submit a report on the action taken and the compensation given to the girl’s family within 14 days.
Member of the Commission Achyutha Rao said preliminary inquiries made by him with the local police and the doctors indicated that the girl died of alleged attack by street dogs. “Our inquiries revealed that the girl was playing with other children near her house at Yadav Basthi of Kapra in Kushaiguda when the pack of dogs came onto the street menacingly,” Kushaiguda Sub-Inspector M. Ravi said.
As the barking dogs chased the children, the panicked girl tried to run inside her house but skid and fell on the stairs leading to the main door. This happened on Tuesday. Sravanthi was initially admitted to a local hospital but was shifted to Gandhi Hospital as her condition deteriorated.
She succumbed to her injury on Thursday morning. The girl’s parents, Anuradha and Sanga Reddy, work as labourers. They took the body to their village in Narayankhed of Medak district to perform the last rites. No case was registered.
